What is a descriptive list in Archives?

Answer

A Descriptive List is a finding aid for collections in Archives.  It tells you:

  • where a collection came from
  • how it is arranged
  • what is in it.

It allows you to search within a collection.  Use either the online PDF copy, which you can search by keyword, or browse the hard copy when you visit Special Collections & Archives (hard copies cannot be borrowed).  This is helpful when you are looking for a specific item in a collection.  It also helps you assess the collection as a primary source.
