Is UCC Library a Legal Deposit library?

Answer

Yes, UCC Library, in accordance with the terms of Section 198 of the Copyright and Related Rights Act, 2000, is a legal deposit library, and as such is entitled to receive a copy of any material first published in the State.

Legal Deposit is the statutory obligation on publishers and distributors to deposit at least one copy of every publication, free of charge, in designated legal deposit libraries.

Its aim is to ensure that the intellectual record and published heritage of the nation is collected and preserved as an archive for research purposes. Sometimes this material is referred to as Copyright.
